About the Uppland Museum Foundation

The Uppland Museum Foundation operates throughout Uppsala County and runs the Old Uppsala Museum, Disagården, and the Uppland Museum. We are about 50 employees working to explore, preserve, and make Uppland's cultural heritage and history accessible in ways that contribute to knowledge and new perspectives on the past, present, and future. We meet people through our activities such as exhibitions, guided tours, crafts, archaeology, and cultural environments, which are anchored by our researchers and preserved in our collections.

About the Uppland Museum

The Uppland Museum is centrally located in Uppsala in Akademikvarnen by the Fyris River, in close proximity to the cathedral. The museum houses exhibitions, a reception, and a museum shop. Here, permanent exhibitions about the county's history and Uppland's ancient past over 5,000 years are displayed, as well as temporary exhibitions with various thematic orientations and both regional and global perspectives. The organization also includes the open-air museum Disagården and the Old Uppsala Museum.

About the position

As a museum host with a pedagogical focus, your work will include staffing the reception and meeting visitors in the museum's exhibitions during weekends and holidays. The tasks include guided tours for different target groups in Swedish and English, as well as practical work related to public activities, such as preparations and setting up venues. The role also includes work at the reception and entrance cash register.

The tasks are varied and require a structured approach, initiative, and good order in daily work. The role involves meetings with both individual visitors and groups of different ages and requires confidence in public activities. A large part of the museum's visitors are families with children and school groups, which means working in an environment with children and youth.

Museum hosts and museum educators are part of a common department that works at all museums within the Uppland Museum Foundation and throughout Uppsala County.

Qualifications

The following are required for the position:

• At least a high school diploma
• Experience in service occupations, including cash handling and customer interaction
• Familiarity with working with different target groups
• Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written
• Interest in cultural history

Meritorious

• Experience in pedagogical work in museums or schools
• Ongoing or completed pedagogical or cultural historical education
• Additional language skills

Personal qualities

The role requires flexibility and the ability to work in a sometimes intense environment with many visitors. The work requires independence, good structure, service orientation, and the ability to collaborate and communicate well in a group. Great emphasis is placed on personal qualities.

Employment conditions

The place of employment is Uppsala. The positions involve scheduled working hours, including weekends, evenings, and school holidays.

The employment form is a special fixed-term employment ongoing throughout the year, every other weekend starting May 1.
